Beijing Multi-Site Air-Quality Data

Abstract

"Hourly air pollutant measurements (PM2.5, PM10, SO₂, NO₂, CO, O₃) and meteorological data from 12 nationally controlled monitoring sites in Beijing, collected from March 2013 to February 2017 (420,768 instances).[page:1][web:74]"

Description

Overview

The Beijing Multi-Site Air-Quality Data set contains hourly measurements of 6 main air pollutants and 6 meteorological variables from 12 nationally controlled air-quality monitoring sites across Beijing, China.[page:1][web:74]

Data Collection

  • Data span from March 1, 2013, to February 28, 2017 (nearly 4 years), resulting in 420,768 hourly observations across all sites.[page:1][web:233]
  • Air-quality data are from the Beijing Municipal Environmental Monitoring Center, and meteorological data for each site are matched with the nearest weather station from the China Meteorological Administration.[page:1][web:236]
  • Missing values are denoted as NA in the dataset.[page:1]

Variables

  • Temporal fields: year, month, day, hour for each observation.[page:1]
  • Air pollutants: PM2.5 (μg/m³), PM10 (μg/m³), SO₂ (μg/m³), NO₂ (μg/m³), CO (μg/m³), O₃ (μg/m³).[page:1][web:236]
  • Meteorological variables: temperature (°C), pressure (hPa), dew point (°C), precipitation (mm), wind direction, wind speed (m/s).[page:1][web:236]
  • station: name of the air-quality monitoring site (12 unique locations).[page:1]

Use Cases

  • Time-series forecasting of air pollution levels (PM2.5, AQI) for public health alerts.[page:1][web:233]
  • Studying relationships between meteorological conditions and air-quality dynamics in urban environments.[page:1][web:236]
  • Benchmarking regression and deep learning models for environmental IoT data.[page:1][web:74]
