Catalog Notes

Overview

The CKW Smart Meter Data is an open dataset published by the CKW Group, a distribution system operator supplying more than 200,000 end customers in Central Switzerland (canton of Lucerne). Since October 2022, CKW has published anonymised and aggregated smart meter data through its open data portal. This Zenodo archive (record 13304499) provides a processed, research-ready sample of this data in Parquet format, organized per smart meter ID and covering the period from January 2021 through April 2024.

The dataset captures electricity consumption at 15-minute intervals for individual households and small businesses, with each record containing an anonymised meter ID, a UTC timestamp marking the start of the 15-minute window, and the energy consumed in kWh during that window. The anonymisation ensures GDPR compliance while preserving the statistical properties of real consumption patterns.

This makes CKW one of the largest and most recent open smart meter datasets available, uniquely valuable for large-scale household electricity consumption research, load profiling, peak demand analysis, and smart grid simulation in a European context. The complete dataset is accessible via the CKW open data portal, while the Zenodo archive provides a curated sample.
