Abstract

"Real-world data from 54 wireless sensor nodes deployed in the Intel Berkeley Research lab, reporting temperature, humidity, light, and voltage roughly every 31 seconds over more than a month.[web:90][web:93][web:96]"

Description

Overview

The Intel Lab Data set contains measurements from 54 Mica2Dot wireless sensor nodes with weather boards deployed in the Intel Berkeley Research lab.[web:90][web:93][web:96]

Data Collection

  • Deployment period: February 28 to April 5, 2004, in an office/lab environment.[web:90][web:93][web:96]
  • Sampling interval of approximately 31 seconds per node using the TinyDB in-network query system on TinyOS.[web:90][web:93]
  • About 2.3 million readings logged across all nodes, providing dense spatio-temporal coverage of the lab.[web:90][web:96]

Variables

  • Timestamp fields: date (YYYY-MM-DD), time (HH:MM:SS.xxx), and epoch sequence number.[web:90]
  • Node identifier (moteid) ranging from 1 to 54.[web:90][web:93]
  • Environmental and system measurements: temperature in degrees Celsius, humidity as temperature-corrected relative humidity (0–100%), light in Lux, and voltage in volts.[web:90][web:93]

Use Cases

  • Research on wireless sensor networks, link quality, and topology-aware algorithms.[web:93][web:96]
  • Environmental monitoring, anomaly detection, and fault diagnosis in dense IoT deployments.[web:90][web:96]
  • Benchmarking distributed query processing and time-series modeling on real multi-sensor data.[web:90][web:93]
